Post subject:  Chronomat Steel Verification

Hi all, i'm new to the page. Looking for help in verifying a Breitling Chronomat Steel that was recently found in the belongings of a family member. From the research i have undertaken, the weight of the piece is in the correct grams range given in the official listings, the serial number on the back is listed and shows as a correct number (although that's an easy bit to copy), and the glass doesn't glare under light. To me, the lettering, wings symbol and 'B' on the chronograph timer hand look pretty accurate in terms of font, style and spacing. The movement is automatic too and not battery operated. Aside from paying someone to open it up, i'm wondering if someone on here can provide any clarification? I appreciate its difficult via photographs but i've attached the best i can with the megapixel limit. Look forward to hearing anyones thoughts (i know the strap isn't right, its the only one i had in the correct lug size, the leather strap was far too worn to keep on it).
Cheers. Simon

Wow that was really insightful and helpful!!? can you please tell me how / why you came to that hard decision just by looking at it? It would obviously be beneficial to me to learn what to spot... thanks

All you really have to do is compare it to a genuine piece and there's plenty of them online. Easiest thing to spot is the grooves in the bezel are cast instead of machined and the general crudeness and lack of quality. When you get familiar with the originals these fakes become easy to spot.
