Post subject:  Recent purchase - Please confirm authenticity and model

Dear fellow Breitling enthusiasts:

My long awaited watch finally arrived. How can I determine its authenticity? Do you know the name of the model? The number on the back is 492xxx. The number below it is 167. I have attached some pictures. Any insight would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

This is an up and down chronograph. Movement Venus 170.
The gold 18 K. case is not of Breitling. BreitlingĀ“s gold cases never has two back cases. I think the gold case is from a Chronographe Suisse (Docker, Telda, Titus, Hedicor....)

as Herbert says.
"167" here is NOT a model ref. but the "hammerhead" marking of the case manufacturer.

Thank you for the reply. I made a mistake, the back case I believe has a 187 (not 167 as I originally thought) - but I don't think this makes a meaningful difference. What are the implications regarding the movement? Do the markings of "Breitling" mean that it is an original Breitling movement or is this some kind of put-together? Does it make sense to keep such a watch or should it be returned?

Thanks to all for your guidance!

Daniel

you can write everything you want on a movement when you're a faker...

movement is a Venus cal. 170, widely used by many manufacturers from the early 1940s to the 1950s

Breitling movements in the early 1940s were still unsigned, so the signature here is actually an additional indication this watch was faked.

last point would be the fact that "Watch Corp" indicates a watch imported into the US in 1948 or later - and for US imports there would have to be the corresponding three letter import code on the balance cock.....

"187" in hammer head would just show the case was produced by another manufacturer - for a Chronographe Suisse; but I doubt it is 187, as I find no corresponding maker in the "Poincon de Maitre " list.

Sadly can't give you any better news - the watch is 100% fake; if you can return it for a refund, please do!

WatchFred,

Thank you for your thorough analysis and guidance. It is forums like these that help weed out dishonesty. Sadly, I will now start the struggle of returning the watch.
