Hi,

i am looking to buy a breitling navitimer, and the sellers says it is ref 805, but as far as i could google it must be a 806?

The back is not the original (i dont think so), and that's the reason why i am a bit concerned. The seller says it have been verified at a watch store.

What do you guys think about the pictures i have posted?

If it is a original one what would it be worth now when the backplate is like that?

The pictures you have posted are very basic and show no particular photographic skills on the part of the photographer. The lighting is OK, and at least everything is in focus, but the background is quite distracting.

caseback clearly isn‘t original - reducing the value greatly.

It’s definitely an 806 bigeye from the late 1960. The very clean caseback, dial and hands leads me to believe that it has undergone a full restoration service, so it’s value would be considered less by serious collectors. However, if you like it and the price is right, buy it. Just don’t expect to sell it easily when the time comes, as restored watches tend to not be in demand.

The dial is definitely an 806 bigeye. With that back cover it would he hard to tell if it originally came that way. Could be an assemblage of parts.

The Heist's might disagree with that since they're usually booked up over a year and watches that have passed through their process seem to bring a premium.

Yes, quite correct. I should have been more precise.

It's an interesting issue. I have seen many "honest"/unrestored watches snapped up quickly and have watched a few pristine examples sit for months in forums and on eBay.
