Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, and a bit of a vintage watch newb, but I am hoping to gain knowledge by reading as much as I can from more experienced collectors. I have come across an add for a 785, which looks good as far as my limited knowledge goes, except that the movement is stamped "singer", which I have never seen before. Is this a breitling case with another movement inside? In addition all the other 785s I can find seem to have dates, whereas this does not, is that suspicious?

Thanks in advance for your help.

this is a fake, although it has a serial (period correct even) and a ref. stamping ;)

I would not call it a fake, but more a Franken ...
The type and SN are period correct , and they were used indistinctively for Breitling and Singer...but 788 was a tricompax , so we would not find a bicompax caliber in a tricompax case .
We know that Breitling was manufacturing some versions under the brand Singer for ottoman/turkish market until ... not after 1950 , and the name engraved on the caseback sounds turkish .
The Singer mark on the chrono bridge corresponds to other Singer marks seen on other watches , so it looks original to me , exactly like the Venus 175 of my Singer Chrnomat 769 .
The dial is clearly a reprint .
So 2/3 of good parts separately, but putting them together results in a frankenwatch

Sorry Fred , I was so focused on the V175with Singer bridge that I missed the flat pushers . Obviously, mushroom pushers on a 788 , I only drink water but sometime you could doubt
