the 1188 are quite big, 38 plus crown.

no stamping inside is fine

@ Paul, the Breitling engraved is worn away.... Yeah maybe best would be NOT to buy...

@ Fred , The case uses an 20mm strap (as seen on the picture) , but most vintage uses 18 mm strap or smaller....Am I right? and the case is indeed 40mm, almost like my Rolex Explorer 2....

good to see a "real life" example, although the asking price is beyond ridiculous.
it confirms what we've assumed; the 1782 was based on (apparently) original Premier 782 cases from the 1940s, with an added leading 1 - based on the 188 instead of the original Venus 175 movemenmt.

Here is the ref. 782 from the 1946 catalog:

Here the 1782 from the mid 1960s "Trautmann":

and a grab from the ebay listing:

This Watch had a hard life !
# 1782 stamped outside but no SN , outside neither Inside ?
In the comments, the seller assumes it could be exclusive for german market ...but why a WOG on balance cock , corresponding to US export code ?

What kind of money is the watch worth in that condition, considering there are no other known examples in the marketplace?

Wouldn't get a dime of my money for that. No way you can convince me that back cover is a correct Breitling piece without serial number. It appears to me to be a recased piece at best.

If you're speaking of the lack of serial number on that 1765, it has the appearance of being a much later design than the 1782 especially if the 1782 started life as a 782. Most watches of this era without a serial number just sends up warning flags and without documentation to say that's the case, and that all of them are that way, I'm with the skeptics. At least with the 1765 the general consensus is that Breitling was using what they had so the possibility of a use of a replacement back without a serial number was a distinct possibility. I don't think that's the case with the 1782.

As far as we know, cases and casebacks were manufactured by subcontractors .
Based on informations got from A. Wajs , who continued to order parts to former LG Breitling subcontractors , the supplier for teel cases was the company Bouille or Bouillé . I have no direct informations on caseback manufacturer , but nowadays they would be different suppliers for case and caseback, parts are different from the technic point of view, not the same machinery and know how .
We also know that SN were stamped BEFORE assembly, either inside LG Breitling company, or directly by the subcontractor .

So for me , 2 "acceptable" reasons for having a caseback without SN :
1/ no SN because it was a prototype or collection Watch, not for sale
2/ original case replaced by a " blank" caseback during a service

Other reasons would be less acceptable
1/ some of Breitling cases were generic items choosen in case manufacturers " collections " , so not exclusive to Breitling ... and this Watch would not be born as Breitling
2/ creation in the Michael Maerz style ?
