Hi Folks,

New to this forum but just wondered if any of you could ID the following watch and suggest whether it is genuine or not? It's one of those old watch shoebox finds and I'm just trying to determine if it would be worth a refurb for use when I'm not wearing my Day-to-Day SuperOcean

genuine ref. 1191, the "budget segment" waterproof Breitling chronograph, base metal case,
early 1950s (post 1952), movement is a Venus 188, looks to be in very decent condition for these.

Thanks for the quick response WatchFred. Serial number 873965 on inside of the back of the case seems to fit in with your nice list of serial numbers posted elsewhere on here. The watch itself does look a tad tired but it's fully functional and keeps as good time as my 2008 SuperOcean which on the whole keeps damned good time when I compare my experiences to those of various Rolex owners etc

I guess I need to look for someone who might be able to tart it up a bit then I'll wear it as an evening watch. The SuperOcean is my work watch because its rugged construction copes with the knocks and dings it encounters during the course of a working day!

These steel ones are much less seen than the more common gold plated versions. Worth getting spruced up I'd say.

+1 - a nice watch to wear today and likely a very affordable restoration to make it a practical piece.

So would you know a place I could get a decent refurb in the UK? Any idea as too what sort of cost it might be?
