I was lucky enough to be given a load of old watchmaking tools and parts from a friend who recently retired ho knew I was getting to horology. One thing he gave me was an old parts cleaner, it's a Greiner Ultrason U. I've managed to work out roughly how it works but would really like to find a user manual for it. I've googled as much as a I can and couldn't find anything, does anyone know where I can find a manual for this or does anyone have one that wouldn't mind copying it?

Thanks

Not sure what you need, it's an ultrasonic cleaner. Insert washer fluid, insert parts, clean. Insert rinsing solution, insert part, rinse.

Not familiar with that particular model but they all work pretty much the same way.

I'm thinking more about maintanance than anything else, for example: how many filters there are to clean and how to get to them, do any pumps or lines head cleaning out, there is one swith on the front that I don't really know what is does that says intern and extern.

My only thought it I know this will have sat for quite a few year so I'd imagine it needs a bit of a service.

I tried to attach a photo but all the ones I have are to big but looks just like this one http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/173 ... ng-machine

Shouldn't need filters because there shouldn't be fluids inside - they should be self contained in the vessels holding the parts - at least that's how modern ones work.

No idea on intern / extern, most cleaners have an option for heating, but no idea what this relates to.

I know on this one when you press the button next to the alcohol rinse it drains out into a tank then refills it. I read something about it distilling the alcohol to take the water out. I think there must be a filter in there somewhere.

OK that's just weird. I've never seen anything remotely like that.

This is where I got some info from, http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/g ... -465667345

I'm not 100% sure what epilame is, maybe that's what the intern/external switch is for.

Epilame is a surface treatment for parts that is designed to reduce oil migration. Only thing I can think of for internal / external is source of the cleaning fluids.

Ahh okay is it worth using the epilame part of the cleaner , does it benafit the watch much? I've had another play and all I can work out is that the US turns off what it's switched to extern.

I imagine that the epilame setting just provides either a stronger ultrasonic or a different setting for the sound waves designed to clean parts with epilame. In modern watches and with modern cleaning solutions I can't imagine it adds much.

Hi Roff,

Just incase you where wondering I found out what the intern/extern switch does. It's so that you can add an external cleaner for larger parts but still operate off one unit. Also I found out how to use the epilame function. There is a flap on the right hand side where the drain for alcohol tank is located there is a small switch on the inside that turns the heater on.
