I'd like to purchase a classic navitimer, but I have concerns about water resistance.
I understand I won't be able to swim with it or anything like that, but how safe is it with everyday use? Is it ok if it gets splashed with water while washing my hands for example? What about running it under a gentle stream of water to clean it? How careful would I have to be?
THANKS!

When you say classic, do you mean an 806 from the 50s to the 70s, or a later reference? If vintage it will be safe if you splash it or get caught in moderate rain, provided it has been service and the seals are good; however, I would not be putting it under running water. Later models, again if the seals are good, should be OK even under running water.

That said, I'm not sure that is necessary to clean a watch that way. I certainly wash my Rolex Submariner under running water, and even give it a gentle scrub with a soft nail brush and soap, but it’s a dive watch with 300m water resistance and it’s the only watch I treat that way. A soft cloth, damp if necessary, is all I use on my others.

Sorry, brand new navitimer. I usually clean my watches by spraying with Wristclean, scrubbing with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing under slow flowing water from the faucet. Works great.

Then you shouldn’t have a problem.
