I bought a new Breitling Chronograph on my Honeymoon 10 years ago. It looks gorgeous with mother of pearl face. Unfortunately it doesnt keep time! It loses 5-10 mins per week. I have had it serviced by an authorised dealer twice (at significant cost). I now use my Blackberry to check the time! Thinking about buying a new watch now. I like the look of Breitlings...but not impressed with accuracy...so thinking about Rolex. Any words of advice please?

My advise would be to not discount Breitling becasue of your watch. Your watch needs to be sent into Breitling themselves for a full servicing... if you intend to keep it. They should be able to get it into tip top shape.

Now if you are thinking about a new model, yours should be of some value as a trade in.

As far as accuracy, all 3 of mine reside within COSC standards without fail.

10 years ago will be before COSC, but clearly 5 - 10 minutes a week isn't acceptable. You don't say whether the servicing was at Breitling or not, but there should be a 1 year warranty with a service. Did the problem come on gradually, or all at once?

If it was sudden then it may have been knocked and simply need regulating, otherwise it likely is a servicing issue.

If it was sudden it could also be that the movement has become magnetised.

I thought that, but it's not likely to be losing this little if magnetised - more likely gaining a lot.

To be honest I agree with you as 5 to 10 mins is not as much as you'd expect, but movements can also lose as a result of magnetism, so you never know.
