Hi everyone-

Just bought this stunning piece and added to my collection...

Noticed that it loses around 2 minutes after 24 hours or so, when compared to my Chronomat 44 and time.gov

Any ideas ? Is the watch still getting settled ?

I am thinking about returning it for a full refund after the weekend of further testing.

Konrad

Welcome to BreitlingSource. It is still settling, but not to that degree. If time keeping is consistent I would just get it regulated but if the watch isn't new there is a distinct possibility it may need servicing. Certainly no evidence yet that it needs to be returned for refund.

Thank you.. Watch was bought brand new, and is less than week old.

I doubt it's brand new, you posted in another thread it came from Authentic Watches. It has therefore been delivered to an AD where it has sat until they decided to sell it on to Authentic Watches. It has then sat there until you bought it. The watch could be several years old by now!

Oh ok - well by "new", I meant unused.

Is there anyway of checking its age based on serial number ?

No, but there is a way to see when the case was manufactured - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml

Just because the watch is unused doesn't mean it doesn't need a service, in fact if it has been sitting unused for several years I can easily understand why time keeping is off - oils have migrated from where they are needed and (if old enough) may have lost their lubricating qualities.

Edit, promithius provided the link first.

Ok - so what do you folks think I should do ? Ask for a replacement, with a confirmed latest date of creation/construction OR have them service it ?

I wouldn't let them touch it from a servicing standpoint, they aren't authorised so can't access parts. I would accept this is one of the risks of trying to save a few bucks by going grey market and pay the $20 or so a watchmaker will charge for a regulation - takes just a few minutes.

I will speak to them tomorrow, and make my decision on Monday.... Sure, saved a bit of money - but still an expensive piece with our weak CDN dollar...

Well - they said that they would send it to Breitling Service Center for repair.... I'll of course have them reconfirm that, and put it in writing.

This is what I just sent them, although they are nice/professional over the phone - I am beyond pissed, as this is such a nice watch.

Hello again-

I followed all the instructions recommended by your service folks yesterday – used to crown to wind it up 50+ times.

Phone still lost 2 minutes, in a 24 hour period against time.gov. So, there is certainly something very wrong with this piece.

Since it is new, I prefer NOT to get it serviced – BUT, a NEW replacement watch sent to me instead.

Please advise that’s what you will do in order to keep my business.

As mentioned before, I am a watch collector and this is a first time I’ve had a problem with a NEW Breitling piece.

Thank you.

Konrad

Well there is not "certainly something very wrong", a service is overkill, and expecting a grey market dealer to cover a US$700 service cost through Breitling is dreaming in technicolour. The watch needs a regulation - 5 minutes and a few bucks at any watchmaker and the watch never goes out of your sight!
