I was just given a watch from my uncle's estate. The lower button does not seem to work. It does push in but I see no effect. Since I have no documentation, I am not sure of what I should be expecting it to do. Also it appears (again no documentation) that the elapsed timer is running constantly

Can anybody help with the functionality or to steer me in the right direction

Top button is the stop / start for the chronograph (stop watch). It sounds as though this might be running now so press it and the chronograph will stop (because it's mechanical you may need to press firmly). The bottom button resets the chrono to zero, but only works when the chrono is stopped (which is why it doesn't appear to do anything when the chrono is running).

The middle is the crown which has to be unscrewed first - wind it towards the bottom of the watch. When it pops out the watch can be wound by wturning it forward - towards the top of the watch. If you pull it out to the first stop you engage the quick set date, pull it out again and you can adjust the time.

Do not use the quick set date, or wind time backwards between 8pm and 3am.
