I just purchased a rouge cloth today. Is it suppose to make your hands red? How often should I use this cloth? Is this the best cloth to clean my watches?

The red is the rouge coming out of the cloth.

Is it the best way to clean watches - absolutely not.

Rouge is not a cleaning material, it's a polish - big difference. Cleaning removes dirt, polishing restores the finish by removing tiny amounts of metal. Rouge (despite the name) comes in different degrees of abrasiveness, not sure where red fits. The preferred polishing cloths are Cape Cod or Sunshine - there are numerous threads on here about them.

Polishing should only be done once a month or less as it does remove metal, albeit tiny amounts.

Red rouge is used primarily for gold or brass. The problem with rouge is plainly evident. It stays on everything it touches. After I polish something with rouge I run through the ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and then rinse it with hot water. Obviously, this is not something you want to do with a watch.
