New to the forum so forgive me if this has been asked or discussed in the past.

I have just acquired an 806 and am now readying myself to spend a bit of money refurbishing it. It needs a new face, new hands and a new bezel marking. Where can I get these items from?

I am from South Africa so we are a bit on the tail end of things.

We have a local repair facility but I want to source these items personally.

Also - Did the 806 ever come with red markings on the face or was it purely monochrome?

Thanks for reading and hopefully answering.

Breitling Watches currently include 1966 Navitimer 806 and a 2006 Navitimer Heritage.

Hi, I've moved this into the vintage section as you'll get far more responses there.

Welcome aboard by the way.

I'm no expert but I do know that the 806 had red makings on the slide rule from around 1963/65. That's the way I've learned to spot if an 806 is a 1950s model. I'm sure others will chip in with more info.

Can't help with anyone in South Africa I'm afraid, but there are dozens of variations on the 806.

If you can post some pictures (front, back and movement ideally) then I'll walk you through the features of your piece.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the answers and the welcome. Look forward to the involvement.

Please take a look at these pictures. I am told its a genuine 1966 unit. Advice? If it is a 1966, should the replacement face have purely black and white markings or would it be suitable to have the unit with certain red numbers?

Pictures don't work - it wants us to log on to that machine. Can you either attach them below the main reply box or use a host like Photobucket?

OK, here are the key points - I'm teaching today so not much time so if I miss something let me know and I'll try and address this evening.

The serial number looks like 1065XXX is that correct? If so then it is 1966 - 66 serials start at 1060XXX. The watch is breoadly correct for a 1966 806 - the hands look correct for a 2nd generation Navitimer and the silver (white) subdials are correct. These are the smaller subs which are still dominating in 1966, although a fewer larger sub examples have started to appear. The all black slide rule is incorrect. By 1966 it should correctly have red and black numbers - these did fade and were routinely replaced during servicing with whatever was available and it's not uncommon to have all black versions, but when you get the dial replaced a red and black slide rule is appropriate.

The caseback looks fine, I have no concerns over that being genuine and the movement is also entirely correct. I have absolutely no problems with this watch short of the condition. It's a nice (mostly) original 806.

Thanks for the very in depth and informative response Roffensian.

I have a supplier who can provide me an authentic face for the watch. I also have a replacement crystal. I now need to make a plan with the hands and the bezel markings. Any ideas where I can get supply of the hands and/or the bezel?

<very excited about my 806>

I don't know of a source, but try PMing chronodeco (Craig) he is in the US, but may be able to assist.
