Hi,

I have just bought a Vintage Breitling 1191 Venus 188 watch and can not find a serial number. I am trying to date the watch and authenticate.

Also, considering having the dial restored. I like the patina as it is but too mush dirt/damage under the 30 minute sub-dial. thoughts???

Serial number should be inside the back cover.

very late 1949 (introduction of the ref. 1191) to ca. 1953 when this logo was finally retired

that‘s surprising - assume human error, as I see no indication this is a fake.

Thanks for the info. I assumed original as i can date the dial, movement and hands to 1950.

With regards to the dial and case. I would like to try and repair/clean the dial to clean up the area under the 30 minute sub-dial. Any thoughts or ideas? I like the patina but a little too much damage in that area. If it can not be cleaned or repaired i was looking to change out the dial as i have found someone that can make an exact copy for $180.

I am also considering getting the case, crown and pushers replated. The plating has gone completely from the crown and significant wearing on the shoulders and pushers. This is the one area that can not be reversed.

thanks

there is nobody who can „make an exact copy“, not for $180 and not for $1,800
even Breitling themselves fail at that attempt.

leave it alone.
