I was flicking through some old magazines and books, and I came across this image of an all-black dial Navitimer in a Breitling "Instruments for Professional" book from around 2001. Is it a digital mashup, a real watch with a service dial, slide rule and hands, or something completely different? The dial looks similar to the one on the Japan-only Navitimer Mecanique, but with a different logo and markings. The slide rule looks like it’s from a much later 806. The hands look like they are gold.

Let’s just say that there are signs that errors like this won’t be the norm into the future as Breitling improves its knowledge about its heritage and the iconic watches of the past. Not too much knowledge at B in the early 2000s, to say the least.
