I understand what you mean. I think the small local auction houses miss the knowledge, time and resources to properly research all the lots they take in. This leads to wrong estimates which are normally "corrected" by the market, because the auction aggregators are monitored followed by people/ how know more then the auction houses about specific lots. I also noticed a really mangy aquastar in the sale above, estimate gbp50-70, sold for gbp1700. The seller is extremely lucky or was very wise to auction it, because i doubt if anyone would have picked up the "value" of this watch at a flea market.
This happens at least twice a month on this aggregator, i saw an Ed White Speedmaster go up with an estimate of gbp400-600 for it to be raised to gbp10.000 quickly. It is interesting and entertaining to follow, it does make watch pricing and valuations more efficient.
