This turned up today, it needs some love, notably a new hair spring and attention to the chrono, but otherwise, I think it is a straight watch. Serial is 780xxx, which seems right, but there are a couple of little bits I am less sure on. Notably, the Breitling engraved on the case back and also the movement bridge. I was under the impression that this didn't appear till a bit later? However, the various parts of the movement all look like they belong together and the dial is most certainly legit. The inside of the caseback has service marks from '54, '57 and '59

Opinions welcome.

someone 'breitling'ized' a perfectly correct watch , by trying to add breitling markings to a watch that didnt need those

That was rather my thoughts, should be quite easy to sort though. Find a new bridge and the one on the back is very shallow.

Having just had a close look at the bridge marking with a loupe, if it is wrong, it is very well done. So I think I will leave as is (plus having just checked my spare 188 movements, they are all silver so the bridge would look wrong). Still not too happy with the case back marking, though not sure why someone would bother?

the thing that I find curious is the gold hands/numerals on a SS watch
