Can anyone confirm if early Breitling Chronomat 769 models do not have a red arrow at the 27 minutes?
Next to Swiss Made.

A photo to prove should be great. From what time on did they use the red arrow?

As far as I know , specificities of early Chronomat 769 dials are
1/ FAB. SUISSE
2/ no red Arrow at 27'
3/ no 3-6-9 indexes on the minutes subdial

4/ all black rotating scale

Difficult to determine a "limit" serial number , around 490000 . No correct pic of my Breitling -Singer 484xxx as it is in wreck condition.

I think they all have the red arrow but some dials have faded badly and may be hard to see.

this is an example from one of the earliest batches, 491.xxx that already has the arriw, but Fab. Suisse and no 3/6/9 ticks. Phil's Singer is earlier, 484.xxx iirc.

I have seen examples of early Chronomats without the red arrow at the 27-minute. Could be that the VERY early ones did not have it, or like Vintage said, they may have just worn off.

Here is an example with serial #479xxx, so it's probably from 1942 (the first production year for the Chronomat). If you look closely, you can see the red arrow on the outer slide rule at about the 38-minute marker. However, there is no arrow on the center dial at the 27-minute marker.

I now see what you mean with the 3-6-9. It is actually 15-30-45-60 instead of 20-40-60.

What about the serial numbers in the caseback. Mine had it in the inside of the case back, but a lot have it on the outside.

(I had serial nr 527533)


By the way, I had that manual, I gave it to the guy who bought my watch. I still have copys of the manual.

I see one for sale with a number 480487 with the serial nr on the outside, with no red arrow, 15-30-45-60 marking, no text about "Swiss made" at the 6o'clock.

There are examples of early Chronomats with serial numbers on the inside (like yours above), and ones with serial numbers on the outside. The Chronomat in the photo I posted above has it on the outside with no reference number (probably one of the earliest, before they put the reference number on it).

My early 769. Fab suisse. Red arrow. Still looking for a pusher, damn hard to find.
