Need some expertise. I own both 769 and 808 models. My 808 has slightly oval lug holes, and I brought it to a casemaker for what I thought was a easy fix. He said the case might be brass so he won't work on it.

Is this correct? Can a 1966 Chronomat 808 have brass case? Did any of the early Chronomats have brass cases? My 1942/43 769 sure don't look like brass either but I don't now. I have other vintage pieces (Breitlings and others) where I can easily see the cases are brass with chrome/silver plating.

Can't really find solid information of the case materials of the older Chronomats. Please shed some light.

Thanks!

if the 808 is a GP model, it is a brass or base metal case.
if it looks like steel, it is (or should be)
769 were produced in chrome, plated, steel and solid gold.
