Post subject:  what movements fit a breitling 1188 case?

Hi i joined this forum to get information and as i learn contribute in my own way to discussions of vintage breitlings.

my issue - i think i bought the wrong size case NOS case (casetype is 1188) for my Venus 170 based breitling cadette which lacked a decent case until now

Now i have a venus 170 movement (28.3mm) and a case which fits a movement that is 30.8mm. the 33.95mm dial i have fits perfectly in the case

Now I know a venus 188 is apparently a 31 mm so that is out (unless the 31mm measurement is a coarse approximation?)

can anyone shed some light on what movements breitling would have sold in the 1188 case type?

or should i just get a movement ring holder and extensions for the pushers?

dont worry i wont be selling this watch. - purely for my pleasure. I always keep my project watches!

as far as I know there were no Venus 170 branded Cadette, these were all in the 11xx line, Venus 170 was used in 1xx cases, most in ref. 174/176/178.

there was(is) a seller in France who has(d) NOS ref. 176 cases.

ouch so i might have gotten burned then
it's an old 33.95 dial definitely unrestored (warts and all) marked breitling cadette with registers at 12 and 6 (an aesthetic i happen to like) which was sold as package with Venus 170 movement. The story was the case was damaged and scrapped and the rest was being sold as a package for an enterprising hobbyist such as myself to fix up. Was there a different kind of movement for breitling cadettes that had top and bottom registers?

so you are suggesting the seller might have gotten his parts mixed up (intentionally or not)? i really dont know enough to comment either way but the seller i think is legit.

Here is the dial in question. fits perfectly in a 1188 case but has up and down registers?

unconvinced that dial was mounted in a Breitling, logo seems incorrect for the manufacturing period of the Venus 170 pieces, as I said, I have never seen a convincingly correct "up/down" Cadette, but I might of course be wrong. movement and dial will fit a ref. 176 or 178 case, I think.

so i might be better off just using the venus 170 for something else and returning the breitling NOS 1188 case (darn got a good deal on it too)

thanks for your input

I think the Breitling dial is legit
I bought it off ebay from Lester Harrison - who I understand is well known and trusted member of this site.
