Just bought this one yesterday and it's on the way. Sometimes you have to take a chance on them when the pics are this bad but they usually work out ok. I could see enough detail to see the watch is genuine. I'll post new pics when I finish getting it cleaned up. It should have a Venus 188 movement. Sellers pics below. Paul L

Splendid chrono! I agree - sometimes you have to buy these things with your heart but they do usually work out. Would like to see better photos when you get the piece. Thanks! |

What do you guys do with these vintage watches when they arrive? do you restore them yourselves or have someone do the work for you? I've always been tempted but don't want to spend hundreds having them fixed into working condition! |

I have three different watchmakers I utilize to revamp my vintage watches. I lack the knowledge and the eyesight so leave it up to those that can do it. When I purchase a watch I know isn't running I try to factor the purchase price into the $200-$250 the watchmaker will ask to service. If the initial purchase price is low enough it will still leave room to get the watch overhauled without selling your first born. You have to know what the watch would sell for in good operable condition and go from there. I have found the Gilbert/Shugart Complete Price Guide to Watches to usually be on the low side of realtime values. I don't know if they do that on purpose or the publication lead in timeframe affects the reflected values. Either way it's too low in most cases. I find a more accurate measure as to value is looking at the closed auctions on Ebay and see what they've been selling for. Paul L |

Just came in today. Quick pics after a little Brasso rub.  Serial number says 1956.

Just bought this one from a UK seller. Paid too much but I always wanted a 1950 Breitling, my birth year. Venus 188 movement again. This one will definitely need replating and I'll have to look at the dial closely to see if it can be saved without a redo. Hope to have it sometime in the next two weeks. Sellers pic. Paul L
