Hello all,

I posted last month about a recently acquired 806 (“806 from 1959 Identification/Period-Correct Band/Buckle Q.”). When I acquired the watch, it had some good patina on the dial/numerals/hand though, less auspiciously, has a visible amount of dust on the face and affixed to the hands. I took a picture of the watch as I received it and it looks the last owner installed a crystal that was noticeably undersized and allowed for a gap on the bottom portion of the watch.

I followed a link from this forum to Otto Frei and picked up the STERNKREUZ "M" BEVEL EDGE PW CRYSTAL. The post I referenced recommended the 38.5mm crystal for an 809, I ended up picking up the 38.5mm, 38.4mm and 38.2mm to cover the bases and meet the minimum order requirement (which is a very amount, impressive customer service). The 38.4mm crystal fit perfectly, the 38.5mm was just slightly oversized.

The result looks pretty flawless (and the profile is great too)-the watch crystal is just so shiny that I can’t get a decent picture for the “after” shot that captures the greens/blacks/golds on the dial!

As always, this forum is a great resource, thank you.

Congrats, the watch is a beauty. Amazing how much difference a change of crystal and a bit of cleaning can make.

Hi there, I have the same model! What crystal size is the perfect fit? 38.8mm or 38.4mm?
Thanks
Daniel

I actually use 38.6!

Watch looks lovely! A keeper for you I hope. You should probably get the movement serviced too if it was really dirty in there.

Do you guys use a tool to fit the new crystal?
I guess the crystal is inserted from the back side (not front side), right?

thank you :-)
