Hi,
I have a breitling navitimer of 1968 with a strange AOPA logo...
I have read that the AOPA logo is below the breitling text;but on my navitimer the AOPA logo is over the Breitling text ...

Is my dial a fake ?

Thank you

David

ps
do you know where i can find a metal bracelet that fits well my 806 reference ?

Never seen AOPA like that but I doubt that it's a fake one.
Vintage experts here will surely figure it out.

I don't think it is a fake either. Look at the picture of my Navitimer 806. It does not have the AOPA in the wings otherwise, it looks pretty close. Nice watch!

I can't see anything wrong with it - I will check it side by side with pics of definitely genuine ones when I get home, but nothing obviously wrong.

˝BREITLING˝ letters are under AOPA logo, not above.

Yes I know, unusual yes, worrisome, no - not yet.

The logo does look a little brighter than the rest of the dial, and the Breitling text is lower on the face than normal (but it would be to accommodate a logo above).

Would someone go to the trouble of faking an 806 this well and get something that obvious wrong, I doubt it - and it would likely have been faked a long time ago - there are much easier ways to make money on vintage watches than faking a dial.

The colour is consistent with the 'white versions' of the logo (as opposed to the creamier versions such as in ISELVWS, and there were definitely variations on the 'logo under Breitling' approach - many without Breitling, and the stylized aircraft logo was usually above the text.

Most convincing argument as far as I am concerned that this is real - Jean Michel has a similar one on his site - and that's the most definitive Navitimer source that I know of - http://www.lesmala.net/jean-michel/navitimer/index2.htm

I was looking yesterday on that site and missed it.
Case closed, hopefully.

That looks pretty much the same as the one on the Navitimer site. The AOPA logos were both white and cream / yellow, white being rarer. I have no problem with either being real.
