Are these the ones with the Valjoux 72's? One sold yesterday on ebay for about 1400 bucks...

I guess they do hold on their own too~ very nice pieces

Hi jlee5050:

Yes these are derivitives of the Valjoux 72 known as the Valjoux 72C ("C" for calendar) or 730(more modern). You can find some in not so good shape for approximately $600.00. This same movement and its' variations were found in Rolex, Heuer, Breitling, Gallet, Longines, Record and many others. Wakmann prices are much more reasonable than the others just listed even in NOS (new old stock) condition.

All of the watches in the pictures have a Valjoux 72C or 730 except the multi-colored black dialed Wakmann with steel bracelet. It has a Lemania 1340 automatic chronograph movement (Omega named it the 1040 movement).

Hi Breitlingmuseum:

Nice Gigandet!

I see that yours is marked both Wakmann and Gigandet. I am searching for a NOS Wakmann version with that same "roulette" dial. They rarely become available.

Hi Breitlingmuseum:

That Gigandet/Wakmann dial looks brand new.....very nice!

I saw an AOPA dialed Wakmann on the 'bay several months ago that needed work and sold for under $1,000.00. I was tempted to buy it because that dial was nicer than the one I owned and the price was reasonable.

So many watches out there with limited resources to chase them ;>)

Can't read the letter code on the balance cock - which I'm sure is by design, but it sure as heck doesn't say BOW or WOG!

That's a very nice (and very old) AOPA Wakmann. Here's a picture of my AOPA Wakmann movement, a little newer than yours (it is from the AOPA in the back row right hand side of my group).

Yours has a screw balance where as mine does not. Both appear to have screw-in date corrector assemblies. Mine is gilded and yours is nickel plated. Both are 72C's!

What I never understand, why are this Wakmanns so cheap. This Wakmanns have a so high quality movement, its better as in every other Valjoux 72/72C watch , Rolex includet. When you only need a spring of this movement for repair a Rolex Daytona, it can cost more as 1000,- $. Why this Rolex watchmakers dont buy the Wakmanns only for parts ?
