Hi gentlemen,

Vintage rolex collector, I just made an exception with that one :)

Image

Serial number indicates the watch is from 1945.
Movement is not signed.
The bezel got some little screws on it.

Your comments are welcome !

Kind regards,

Alex

A real beauty, gratulation.

I know this problem. The attachment of the bezel on this model is very sensitive, and because that was defective, someone had probably used the screws.

I've heard before that some of the first 769 got some screws on the bezel to hold it.
A legend ?

I dont saw it as original. But show us some photos from side.

Only the first Co-Pilot 765 with rice beaded bezel had the 3 srews original from Breitling.

The one that I have in my collection has 3 screws in the bezel to hold it on. I have worked on one other that was the same way. They are very small and usually rusted in place and have to be acid/desolved out. Craig

Dr_Jennings, that is a beautiful watch!

As Criag (chronodeco) says the screws are completely original, absolutely no problem at all. I obviously can't comment on the originality of things I can't see, but it looks good from the front

Thanks for this info Craig, i never saw it before. May be now I can solve a big problem in my stock, because I have 2 of this Chronomats in 18 kt Gold, where I could not attach the bezel.

Is it only the 18 Kt Gold model, which has this srews ?

And on which position are the screws ?
(at the Co-Pilots, I have noticed that the screws are becoming the same distance, but not always near the same number on the bezel)

I'm still not 100% convinced of the originality of these screws, but happy to learn something.
I just checked it, I have a total of 18 of this Chronomat 769 from all registration years, including 5 in 18 K gold, but not one of this has this screws. photos are real helpful.

As promised, some pics :)

First I would like to have your opinion on the crown, do you think it's original ?

Here's a pic of a screw

and a close up of another one :

The screws are becoming around one inch.

Crown is not original, the original was unsigned but would have been more of a smooth rounded face rather than the distinctive circle that you have.

Screws are consistent with the positioning of screws that I have seen, but are inconsistent in appearance with my experience - I suspect that they are replacements.
