Here's a little something to compare it with.

I think it will clean up nice with a new crystal and a service. Sort of like the bracelet because it's a period piece from the same timeframe as the watch. Both of them polished up together aught to make a nice formal watch.

No doubt priced because of the gamble on what's wrong. If it has a broken mainspring then no big deal - couple of hundred bucks for the service plus a crystal and crown and you are laughing. Broken jewels, bent arbors, etc and it could quickly become more expensive.

Worth asking if it's being sold because the guy got a repair quote that he didn't like.

well the girl that has it reckons its been sa in a drawer for a long time and it belonged to her father he recently passed away and she wants to sell it for spares we agreed a price around $160. I have a Wakmann with the same venus 188 movemnet so all i need do in worst case senario is change faces and cases and hey presto a working Top Time with an original venus 188,I would prefer to see if i can keep it original though.

Not so fast on the movement change. Take a look at the minute registers. The Wakmann is 30 min the Top Time is 45 min.
