There are two in Europe also on the sale. What to think about those watches? The second one (from Spain) is described as solid gold one, but the discoloration on lugs ???? And what is plastic crystal????

Well....

Bill Shaine doesn't sell fakes (he is a rarely seen member on here), but that doesn't mean that his watches are always original - there have been instances of watches that have been 'creatively restored'. Bill will never claim that they are something they aren't, you just have to carefully read the descriptions.

I don't see a problem with this one, in terms of price, he doesn't mention whether it runs, has been serviced, etc it should go to $2,000, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it get closer to $3,000 if it's had a recent service and is running. If it's not running then sub $2,000.

I'm away from my reference material this week, but at first glance it has a few challenges - not completely happy about the Breitling engraving on the caseback and I don't like the hands. I also suspect that the dial has been redone.

However, I don't think that it's an out and out fake. Hopefully one of the other experts will give some opinions, if not I'll check the books when I return home later this week.

Well,
agree with the case back. Numbers seem reasonable but the the Breltling signing is quite unusual. For the rest, it seems to be fine for me.
cheers Al

The seller stated that this was NOS (new old stock). I have no way of knowing if this is so...Anyway, in case it is original indeed, is there a way to find out year and model? Again thank you for your replies.

If the numbers on the back are legit then it's from 1946. The watch has the correct look for 1946. The movement looks nos but someone has added the 'Breitling' to the back cover which, to me, indicates the watch probably came out of South America and that makes the rest of it suspicious. Not wrong, just suspicious. I really can't tell more about the dial since it's not a good pic but I suspect a repaint too.

The seller is based in Israel. Obviously, this does not mean that the watch did not come from S.A. originally..just thought to add this.

Thank you vintage. Well, if it is from 1946, and it is original, what I can say is that it's keeping very good time so far...

In any case, the reason I bought it, was because I really liked it....it's just that I wouldn't feel so good if it turned out to be fake and having paid quite a lot of money too.

Thank you guys, you've been most helpful!
