I’ve always loved the big case Chronomatics, but always been put off by the condition of the dials on most pieces. The few remaining NOS examples also tend to come with “optimistic” prices.

I’ve recently been reading about the Ollech & Wajs Aviation 6081, which are apparently made from existing Breitling parts and reputedly as good as the real thing minus the branding. I’m tempted to get one off the net, and maybe put it on a nice aftermarket mesh bracelet. However, I’ve never seen one in person, and I don’t like breaking rule number #1, which is to always physically examine a piece.

What is the quality like on the Ollech & Wajs Aviation 6081? What do you consider to be a decent deal on one of these NOS pieces?

All opinions welcome!

Thanks

O&W bought the machinery and unassembled parts from the bankruptcy and they are very good watches. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, but I'm not an expert on pricing. Take a look at eBay and Chrono24, and hopefully someone else will have a better idea on value.

Thanks Roff,

Yeah, I gathered they’re one for the purists – minus the branding…

I’ve handled enough old school Breitling Chronomatics over the years to be confident from the photos that the O&W Aviators are well made.

I’m gonna get one - I've contacted 5 sellers, and the best deal is from Mr Wajs himself. He's even going to include a bracelet, which I hope is a proper old school number!

It's funny, but knowing the history of this period in watches means I'm really not fussed that there is no "B" logo on these pieces. I can't wait!
