I have got this watch for my birthday from my mother. As she have told me it was my grandpa’s watch.

Is anyone know what is the type, the age, etc... of this watch?

Welcome to Breitlingsource. This post will probably get moved to the Vintage section so keep an eye out there for replies.

The experts there will need to know what markings are on the case back of the watch, preferably inside as well as out.

Pictures of the case back and movement will be most useful in identifying it.

As sharky says a photo of the inside and outside of the caseback will be a big help, as well as a movement photo. At the very minimum can you provide the numbers from the caseback (but pictures will be much better).

this is the back of the watch. unfortunately i dont know how to open the case.

With that kind of caseback you should take the watch to a watchmaker to open - you'll damage it if you try it yourself.

I have to say though, that kind of caseback on that watch is not a good sign of originality.

The dial suggests 1940s/50s vintage but the case looks much, much newer.

Try opening the back of the watch by using a rubber ball. Press down hard and twist. Often works if the case is not too tight!

I've not had a lot of success with that approach on notched casebacks because the Jaxa style openers can really get tehse tight, but definitely worth a try.

Looks like somebody already attacked it with needle nose pliers! Try double sided carpet tape if the ball doesn't work. If somebody used pliers, I doubt that it is very tight.

That's a Venus 188 movement, but I don't think that the whole movement / case / caseback is original to the watch. It looks a lot like a frankenwatch - one that has been assembled later.

The caseback is inconsistent with this type of watch and the lack of any markings on the movement is worrying for a Breitling 188. There are also no model or serial numbers on the caseback.

I have asked my Mom and she said that it we have it at least since 1955. What do you think about the dial? Which Breitling model is it? By the way I have a better pics about the movement and the model sign.

Well 1955 is too early for the 'normal' frankenwatches. The unsigned bridge on the 188 is a bit troubling, but it's not unheard of - it's the caseback that really bothers me.

I'll have to check the guides to try and find a model that matches this dial layout, and won't be able to do that until Wednesday evening at the earliest.

The caseback really bothers me though - I can't believe that's original.

I think it is an early fake Breitling. I have seen other big brand names that were faked going back to the 50s. Craig
