Well... it's been a quite a journey... I've been looking for one like this for a long time... at times I was desperate and thought I should settle for something less...

But after all the patience, all the hours spent on ebay, all the advice from Roff and everyone else, all the time on Breitlingsource, all my own research, etc. (you get the idea) I finally picked up on THE EXACT chronomatic that I've been searching for all this time...

Best of all, the guy was a vintage dealer based here locally, (well, not really but close enough) and I got the opportunity to pick it up directly. (the whole watch thing was his side thing) Nevertheless he was even nice enough to invite me into his house and talk watches for a bit. Gave me a nice discount which was very nice of him. (Sometimes cold hard cash talks) :D But nevertheless, I can honestly say I've learned a lot from these past 2-3 months. I've learned the virtue of patience (ie. waiting for the right watch at the right price, waiting for a watch to come back from service) We live in such an "instant" world these days and ever since getting into this whole vintage watch hobby, I can honestly say I've truly learned that as generic as it may sound... good things come to those who wait... but enough of my sentiment.

The only thing now I have to worry is this serious addiction that I've gotten... :wowzers

Many variations on the dials back then. This one is the last 2110 I had last year, also a 1969 model. It's now living in the UK.

Vintage-That's a very nice one too...

I was so smitten with these chronomatics from this particular year ever since I saw them... finally glad I got one...

I noticed the two subdials are a bit different from yours and mine... other than that it's the same caliber I assume?

Also, I have some other questions...

1) is it okay to move the watch hands in reverse for an automatic?
2) How long will this watch tick without wearing it? What's the power reserve?

Nice watch! Congratulations.

Regarding your question about moving the hands backwards, it's ok to do so. Actually, that is the best way to change the date on this movement. You reverse the hands to somewhere around 10:00 and then move them forward to about 2:00 and the date should change (if it doesn't advance the hands 12 hours and try again).

As to power reserve, it will probably not be the 42 hours most newer automatics have. How much will depend on the condition of the mainspring and how long it has been since the watch was serviced.

If this is the one that was on the bay, I recall the seller indicated that it had been serviced recently. If the mainspring was replaced, you should get a decent power reserve. Again, this was the very first automatic chronograph. A lot of improvements have been made since then. Don't expect to get 42 hours.

I keep my 1969 model 1809 Cosmo (same movement) on a winder, so I don't really know how much reserve it has. Maybe I'll lay it on the table and see how long it will run.

I usually wind mine once a day (at least the ones that I keep running) and don't usually have any problems - so 24 hours or so at least, but as onewatchnut says it's not going to be the 42 hours of a modern Breitling.

so in terms of winding, do you just hold the watch and give it a few flicks of the wrist in a stirring motion? Or are you supposed to use the crown?

I wind from the crown when I'm winding all of my automatics. Trying to shake the watch to wind it likely won't provide enough energy for a full wind.

Thanks for your help last time Wetty... I was going to pick up on the other one but it was just way too expensive... the auction ended at over 500 bucks and I think the repair bill would've been too much... luckily, I found this one which was in very good condition and it was at a pretty okay price so I jumped on the opportunity... I have never been happier...

that is until I start looking for another vintage Breitling... :roll:
