Post subject:  New owner of 806 Navitimers seeking help

Image

I just purchased a very nice vintage 1965/1966 gold filled Navitimer 806.
Everything checked out correct, but I knew that the watch was coming
with aftermarket strap, buckle and aftermarket crown.

1) can you please share the proper strap dimensions (22/18 or 22/20)
2) can you please share a picture and size of authentic tang buckle?

3) Most importantly - I am in search for genuine Breitling crown.
There seem to be many for sale, but most sellers are not exactly sure if their
crown fits Venus caliber 178. Can you please share any info. (crown dimension)
on your Venus 178 powered Navi 806s ?
I am seeing FS ads for:
- 7.0 mm ( The actual diameter is 6.85 mm) outside diameter, around 3.3 mm tall and the tube size is 2.5 mm. Tap 10....or
- or 6mm (actual 5.85mm) about 2.75 thick with tube size 2.5m (tap No.10 or tap No.8 )

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you are not sure of the tube or tap size, finding out
from the current 806 owner the correct diameter and thickness would be a good start (perhaps I would just
buy 2-3 with various Taps and could try out what works and further re-sell what doe snot fit),

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BreitlingSource!

Crown is 7mm. Never replaced one personally, but I'm fairly certain that it's tap 10.

Don't have any original straps but I believe that they are 22/18, although there was a huge amount of inconsistency in the straps / bracelets that were provided with these pieces at the time.

Thank you Roff,
with some additional search, I am pretty convinced that the straps are 22/18mm.
I have saved MANY 806 pictures on my PC, interestingly - not one with a good
clear shot of the 18mm tang buckle.

Thanks for the tip on the crown - 7mm diameter seems to be the measurement.
On the thickness I have read 3 mm - 4mm ..... I am getting closer ;)

Thickness is 4mm - but not all measurements are equal - total thickness vs. edge thickness (as it has a slight dome).

I checked www.navitimer.net and couldn't find any original tang pics either!

Thanks for checking.

The watch should be here middle of next week, so the 'main part of the quest' part is taken care of..
Getting the right strap, genuine buckle, correct boxes and booklets is part of the hunt (and part
of the fun !) coming up later ;)

Having had two original straps on my 806's I can tell you with certainty that they are 22x16mm. Tough to find this size any longer. I had a couple custom made by Banda a few years ago.

Better order a new tap 10 Venus 178 stem from Frei or ? It is unlikely that the one on the watch now would be to correct length. You will need to cut the new one to fit. Craig
