Any information on this one? This looks a bit like the Newman daytonas... love love it~!

And is it legit? I found some comparable ones on wannabuyawatch.com (watch dealer in LA, near where I live) and they have two in the range of 4900 to 5000... seems a bit too much... but I compared the pics from the auction and the watch dealer and it seems legit...

one more question... any advice on how to obtain a bracelet? it seems it doesn't come with one... or is leather the only option I have?

1969 Co-Pilot that looks OK. Often seen as the poor relation of the Navitimer, though I agree it stands on it's own well. It's the direct descendant of the AVI and Aviastar - Alan has a history of them on WUS - http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=112

$4,900 is way too much - half that is in the ball park, and less if you're lucky in this market.

Original bracelets from the late 60s / 70s are out there, but hot too common - just have to keep your eye on the Bay.

Top of the morning to you Roff...

Yeah I kinda figured 4900 and up is WAY too much... but the auction started at 895 with about 4 1/2 days to go...

What would be a good price to get it at? I'm seriously considering this one... I love the look... and the movement looks pretty solid to me... (looks and functionality wise)

You have to factor servicing costs into it - even if the movement looks good it will likely need some attention without evidence of a recent service - a watch that has a broken mainspring can have a great looking movement in photos :!:

If you can get it for $2,000 then I think you have a good deal. Above $2,500 I would definitely pass, in between those numbers it comes down to how badly you have to have this particular one rather than waiting for the next one.

The last two Copilots I had I sold for between $2000 and $2500 (I've had about six of them). This one will sell for about that much in the last few seconds. If it doesn't I'll buy it. :) What I like best about Copilots and AVI's (ref #765) is that they're way rarer than Navitimers and just as large at 40mm.

One thing that never gets addressed on vintage Breitlings is the history of a piece based upon normal maintenance. It's readily assumed that a piece is "fake" if it's not 100% correct but in reality it could be that during a maintenance session pieces were replaced that weren't exactly identical the the originals. Does that make the watch a fake, I don't really think so. It's pretty common to see the wrong crystals on "100%" correct pieces. At some point what's original becomes lost and watchmakers take their best shots. I think Craig can atest to that. So, what we often see as a suspect pieces is actually an original piece that has had some parts changed over the years during services. What one must decide is whether you have access to the correct replacement parts when you consider buying a watch that isn't 100% correct.

Roff and vintage called it on the dot... currently $1944 and some change with about an hour to go... but I still got an hour to do some thinking...

I missed it... I was going to check up on the auction five minutes before it ended (you know... the constant refreshing of the webpage watching the countdown) but I got caught up in work...

Oh well... I really liked that one though... hopefully as you say, another one will come around...

One question, I noticed this particular look for this vintage year has two different kinds of bezels...

I noticed there was another one... same chronograph, numbers, everything except the other bezel had a different look to it...

Both look familiar, not sure off the top of my head of the model number being the same - I'll check.

Both look OK to me - definitely different bezels - take a look at Page 6 here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/books_1969.shtml

for some examples.

Can't immediately find that specific one, but I'm convinced that it's correct.
