I have just joined the group after reading the string of DDonovan who had an 806 from his father restored. I too have an AOPA circa 1959 Navitimer, given to me by my father over 25 years ago, that is need of restoration. I have entrusted a local jeweler who is passionate about Breitlings and seems to know quite a bit about the history. He claimed my father's watch was the oldest he has ever seen. It is in slightly better shape than DDonovans picture, but definitely needs work. I would like to restore it and wear it to honor my father. I believe his father gave it to him after he soloed in a Tiger Moth at Maulten Airport, now Pearson Airport in Toronto in the late 50's. Does Breitling do restorations? I'm sorry to be such a novice, but I am learning quickly.

Hi and welcome to the site. It's great to have you here.
IMO if you want first rate restoration work I would check out Craig (Chronodeco) at this link. http://www.chronodeco.com/ Craigs a member of this site and along with fantastic restoration skills he posseses a great knowledge base of vintage Breitlings and watches in general.

If you use the search function on this site you will find numerous examples of his work.

Again welcome to the site. :)

Welcome to BreitlingSource!

I'm a little surprised that your watchmaker hasn't seen an 806 earlier than 1959. 60s are more common but mid 50s and on aren't that rare. That said, these first generation Breitlings are just gorgeous - I'm still waiting for someone to come on here and ask about their 1952 so that I can value it and $20 and then buy it from them for $50

I will second br549's recommendation of Craig's work, but if you are happy with your watchmaker then I'm sure that will work too. Breitling do service vintage pieces in some locations, but not in North America. They have a 3rd party approved service agent - Mark Heist at Horological Services in PA. He's effectively 'factory authorised'.

Oh, and I think it was actually spelled Malton Airport.
