That IS beautiful!
Next time I'm buying a knife for my husband I'll ask for your advise and expertise for sure!
The last one I bought him one, was just a simple stainless looking one, but I did have his name engraved on it to make it look super-special
He wears it with him everyday! 8)

Wow.

Very cool. Is the blade anodized steel? Amazing colors!

Vanessa, I'd love to help you pick out a knife next time you plan to buy one :) Simple stainless/titanium/composite knives are great for every day carry.. but sometimes something fancy and handmade like the peice above allows you to appreciate the craftmanship.. like a nice watch.

Brian, the blade steel is Robert Eggerling Multi-bar Damascus steel, and the bolsters are Eggerling Mosaic Damascus steel, both heat colored to a beautiful blue. The handle material is Black Lip Mother of Pearl, hand carved. Liners are Annodized Titanium. THe thumbstud has a Cognac Diamond set in it, as well as the backspacer which u cannot see, also has a cognac diamond and Blacklip mother of pearl inlays.

Wow, that's amazing. I'm sure there's a few man hours in crafting that jewel.

Sure beats Grandpa's "Old Timer" all to hell.

Because this peice is made by Frank Niro, and he undercharges for the quality he makes, it is only $700. Similar makers will charge upwards of $1000 easily for this.. some of the top makers will charge close to $2000 for the same quality of knife as this. $700 is a bargain for the amount and quality of work in this peice!

I have some knives that are not nearly as pretty, but cost just as much.

I thought it might cost as much, definately not in the market for something that expensive no matter the value, just not into knives that much.

Could you recomend a decent knife that would cost closer to a 100 USD? Looking for something thats reliable and looks simple. Thanks for any info!

Hmm.. around $100? That's on the low-end for a quality knife, but there a few:

Kershaw Spec Bump is around $130

The new Benchmade Nitrous Stryker is also good for just over $100

And everyone always loves the Spyderco Military.. also around $130:

There's always the entire CRKT line and a bunch of small guys like the Kershaw Leeks, Scallions and Chives that are all under $100. These are all decent knives, but blade steels will not stay as sharp as the ones above.

If I bought my spouse a knife, I would have to sleep with one eye open.
