Being here in Australia, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. So the closest we come to this would be the sales after Easter and on Boxing Day. Lots of hype around these 'Events'. Probably not quite the same as TG, but similar in that its an opportunity to buy at huge reductions in RRP.

It does not really interest me or my beloved. Lots of stuff no one wanted prior to the celebration, and in the end its only a bargain if you can use it. Usually its the odd sizes, unusual colours or integrated options no one really wanted in the first place. If you guys get a red hot go at normal items (and not specials) during this day and at bargain prices, then you might be onto something far better than we experience.

I will stick to on-line bargain hunting I think and avoid the crush of the general public.

There is no way I will spend two hours online to save $100. If I can do it from my computer though - absolutely!

Here in Hong Kong there is a "Black Friday" sale somewhere everyday.
Just can't be bothered to battle the crowds to it. Don't need any more crap in my house. Mrs wessa is extremely good at filling up every nook and crany of available space and if I say anything, all I get is "What about all your watches?". That's typically the end of that discussion.

I live Black Friday.

I do business in a mall. I just pulled a 21 hour shift (Midnight to 9pm). (Well in one hour it'll be 21 hours)

Personally it doesn't help much of the rest of the mall as the anchor stores get most of the action anyway. Usually people pick up what they came for and they go home to snooze. Most of my business is during the daytime and evening.

Twenty one hours? Hats off to you.

Yeah bit of a poor judgment call on mall management if you ask me. I think they realize that it doesn't really help the smaller tenants much. Hope they don't do this again next year.

What's this Black Friday business anyway? Some kind of special day where you can buy stuff cheaper I assume? Don't have Black Fridays over here nor Green Thursdays and Yellow Mondays so please tell me what it's all about. Thanks!

No Black Friday here. But I saw some scenes of store openings on TV. People act like zombies on the hunt for brains.

The start of the Christmas buying season -

"Black Fri·day
noun
1.
(in the US) the day after Thanksgiving, noted as the first day of traditional Christmas shopping, during which crowds of consumers are drawn to special offers by retailers."

Now we also have "Cyber Monday" which is the online equivalent of Black Friday. Today I got an email from Land's End inviting them to shop their first ever "Cyber Tuesday." Aaahhh, STOP IT!
