A bit blowy in Hong Kong tonight.
Typhoon Usagi is creating a bit of a nuisance in the region.
Never thought I would have to resort to what my grandma did 60 or so years ago.
Oh, well with a bit of luck it will be no office tomorrow ;-)

The wife and I lived in HK (1999 - 2001) and experienced a direct hit 10 typhoon. It was exciting!!! Flying debris caused lots of damage along some of the high-rise building canyons - stay away from those windows. We lived in Dynasty Court on Peak Road.

Good luck!!

I know the one you are talking about.
I remember it well. That's the only one I recorded on my video camera.
Had a hell of a time trying to open the front doors with the wind pounding agains them.

Yes, 1999 was a very good typhoon year:

"Typhoon York September 17, 1999 and Sam August 24, 1999

York was the most powerful typhoon to impact Hong Kong since 1983. It killed only 2 people (an example of how efficient the typhoon alert system had become in the city by this time). Sustained winds of 151 km/h (94 mph) with gusts to 234 km/h (145 mph) were measured at the city’s Waglan site. In August of 1999 Typhoon Sam brought torrential rains to Hong Kong causing landslides that killed four. In fact, it was the greatest rainfall in Hong Kong history with 616.5 mm (24.27”) measured at the Hong Kong Observatory over a 24-hour period."

It looks like the eye missed HK this time....York was a direct hit.
