Hi all,

On vacation in the DR at Excellence Punta Cana, pretty nice hotel.

A number of watches along for the ride as I like to have some choices :lingsrock:

About to jump in the deep end on morning one and a post from waaaayyyy back literally popped into my head.

Anyone remember the guy who went swimming with his Bentley, and had forgotten to screw in the crown???

So, there am I, toes on the edge of the pool.... and an Avenger Seawolf Chrono on my wrist.....with the crown unscrewed

I love this forum.

On a side note, I bought a Pro III for it just before I left home. It's easily the most comfy of any diver strap I've owned.

Only posting this to remind anyone going in the wet stuff to check their timepiece!

Davey

Just stayed there a couple month back, love it! Food could have been a bit better though... But frat band for the buck!

Errrr update

The night I decided not to drink as we'd been having wine every evening, my wife asked my to pop back to our room to get her camera, thought I might as well get mine too.....

Last flight of stairs, I slipped, :superman: landed on the 8th step down....BANG!! Lay there in shock, back seized. Could not move for a minute till the feeling came back to my legs.

Time to check things out.....fingers working, toes working, back burning. Watch bracelet had opened up including the diver section and had cut my arm open, the bezel was laying on bottom step....Camera's fine.

Had a very painful journey home, an hour on lumpy roads in a van....then 8.30 hour flight home.

Back is very sore, and is a delightful shade of yellow and purple...Went to the Doc's, he described my injuries as those of a big 51 year old bloke who had fallen down some stairs and protected his gadgets not himself.....hit me with Codeine.

But no internal problems thankfully.

There was me thinking I'd dodged a bullet.

Davey

Sounds like a close call, with some serious injuries avoided there... Hope you feel better soon. At least you got Codeine out of it.

Actually not good!

The bezel is off, as I said, although the rubber seal seems intact. There is a slight bump on the case, and the bezel itself. The digital display is clouding on the top right, and the bottom display is losing some pixels. The chrono is running, but again missing pixels, so its like reading Klingon!!!

Contacted the insurance company, so hopefully it'll be assessed and fixed.

Me, I'm just pleased I can walk. It was the worst fall I've ever had.

Matt,

The Codiene is awful!!! It sucks the life out of you! Zombie comes to mind!

My bank manager rang me today, and after short while asked me if I'd been drinking!!! This at 10.00....

Apparently I was wonderfully chilled out.

Hmmm might not sombad after all.. :uplaugh:

I'd laugh myself but it hurts.

Well, sorry to hear about your watch.. And your back. I fell down the stairs before and it's definitely not a fun time. Even more sorry you couldn't blame it on the wine;)

Davey, Davey, Davey,

When will you old men learn not to do these dangerous pursuits - stay at a hotel with a stair lift next time - trust me, your watch will thank you.

Seriously, glad that you are (relatively) OK, your posts aren't too slurred at least, here's hoping that the insurance company doesn't mess you around!

Aww man! At least you're OK Davey.... even if the watch took a bit of a pounding. Could've been a lot worse so keep popping the pills and rest easy mate.

Yeah we gotta keep that crown screwed in always. When done adjusting time, out it back in.

I live right next to DR, in sunny, warm, humid and rainy Puerto Rico. I went back in 2010 to Ocean Blue Bavaro in Punta Cana. Great place, food and service.

Remember to run buggies to the cave just before you go back home. But don't take the Breitling with you unless you don't mind filling it with mud. LOL

Ouch! Time to practice some tuck & roll techniques. Next time fold your wrist tight against your chest & curl up into a fetal position. That will protect your watch much better...

Don't stay on the codeine too long (it's habit forming) :D

Thanks for all the getting old reminders.....

There was a day....a long while back, that I'd have just bounced.

So, Here is the real casualty.

Damage to the lug, and the bezel, the LCD seems to be clouding at the corner in the top section, and reading Klingon in the lower one. All the functions are working 'tho.

Ironically my lower back is now the same colours as the dial....yellow and black. I still cannot believe I did not smash my camera, or Elaine's iPhone.

So the yella fella is soon on a short trip to Tonbridge Wells to have the repairs estimated. Just waiting on the paperwork from the insurance company to arrive.

I think it's going to more than a tenner.

As a Man of Kent (but only just - a mile further west and I would have been a Kentish Man) I can't let you get away with that:

Tonbridge
Tunbridge Wells

Never, ever, Tonbridge Wells :nono:

I think you could be right that a tenner won't cover it - especially if it's an insurance job. On the bright side, you'll get an insurance funded overhaul this time around.

Keep on the mend Davey!
