Hi guy's

We were treated to a little flyby at the airshow on Saturday.

Red Arrows and the new British Airways A380

Rather special it was too!

Kinda lacks the panache of a fighter like the Thunderbird's F-16 Fighting Falcon or the Blue Angel's F/A-18 Hornet. But I bet they are still fun to watch.

I agree the Red Arrows' Hawks are certainly not as impressive as aircraft when compared to the F-16's or F/A-18's, but the Red Arrows routine has always personally just excited me that little bit more than the others whenever I've seen them. Maybe there's a bit of patriotism in there, but I think the main part of it is due to aircraft size as the Hawk (while being stone-age in design) is quite a small craft which lends itself to close formation aerobatic manoeuvres a little more than the others IMO.

But either way, all of these display teams (and I've seen a number of them) are hugely skillful.

The sequestration in the U.S. has grounded some great aircraft from travelling on the airshow circuit. I remember seeing lots of high-powered demonstrations at the Abbotsford Airshow when I was a kid. This past summer I went to the Comox Airshow on Vancouver Island - first airshow there in 9 years. A smaller program, but still entertaining; no Breitling Jet Team of course! The CF-18's make the biggest impression noise-wise, but the Snowbirds were the closing act and the team everyone stayed to see.

Here are my highlights. It was a great day; the clouds kept their distance and I got a pretty good sunburn.
