Anyone else get the overt scam attempts under the guise of PayPal? I just ignore them but figured it was worthwhile posting it as someone might fall for it, follow the link and give up all their personal info. Oh, don't try to call me at the listed phone # - not even close to the correct area code. ;)

I was about to say the same thing the fact that they don’t even have a basic command of English speaks volumes to me.

I actually replied to something similar... think it was one from my bank (Wells Fargo). Clicked on the link and the website looked exactly what the website would look like except the URL address at the top was the dead giveaway.

Looks dubious to me.

I regularly get all sorts of 'phishing' scams from senders purporting to be PayPal.

If you get any, just forward them to spoof@paypal.com . If you're not sure if it's genuine, ask them to clarify.

Don't click any links! Always log in to PayPal from a 'clean' browser page.

This one's an obvious scam but you can spot 99% of them just by seeing what the 'real' URL is rather than the typed URL - usually just roll your mouse over it or move it to junk folder which (at least in Outlook) will disable the links and show the real links after the text.

I haven't seen this one yet but did get one earlier this week that was better than most - a 'formal complaint' supposedly made by a non existent company that I was infringing on some undisclosed rights and needed to click on a link to provide more details. They had gone to the trouble to pretend to be sending it from a real lawyer / real e-mail.

The fact is, ANY email about financial matters that has embedded links should be deleted. If you are worried enough to check, login in the normal way and/or contact the provider.

And it would have been so easy just to steal a legitimate looking page from another scammer.
