Flew sailplanes for years. It's a whole different flying.
You can't make a go-round in a glider.
And the absence of sound and sense of speed is sooo different!
I love Choppers and Sailplanes.
Flew a Huey in Vietnam and Hughes TH55-A in flt. school.

I have started as a gliderpilot. The problem compared to motorized aeronautics is, that You need a lot of help and time to fly gliders. I needed a complete sunday (at least from 10.00h in the morning until 17.00h in the afternoon to fly for only 1 hour), at least that was my big problem in the club. Also there where always days, when You were at the airport, and no pilot was there fly the aircraft, that pulls the glider for the start. After finishing my PPL I gave up gliders.

But I have to admit, flying a glider is a better feeling than with engine power. It's just great!

A glider will certainly teach you to use rudder. And while I don't fly them, I have friends who do, and I well know how much time the training can eat up. That's why often times the glider work is centered around a club that's very social in nature -- you'll spend a lot of time hanging around with the other guys. I suppose you can always show off your watches.

In an attempt to keep this thread alive, here's what I did last weekend, holding down the back seat, with a bunch of good friends taking turns in the front.
