Well it's all down to the Oval to save the Ashes, because we sure as hell won't be winning it down under in 2010/1. Well done to the Aussies, though it hurts me to say it :cry: Here's my team for a one off test to save the season.

1, Andrew Strauss
2, Marcus Trescothick ( if he could be coaxed back)(Rob Key if not)
3, Alastair Cook
4, Mark Ramprakash (averaging over 100 for Surrey, albeit in the second division)
5, Jonathan Trott
6, Matt Prior
7, Fred if fit (or Ryan Sidebottom)
8, Stuart Broad
9, Graeme Swann
10, Jimmy Anderson
11, Graham Onions

I agree that you need to find some batsmen gents. Your top order was woeful in that last test and doesn't inspire any confidence on paper at all, except Strauss. You could probably stand to lose Bopara, Bell and Collingwood at the very least if you have in-form batsmen to fill the void...you certainly don't need 5 specialist bowlers with your batting this weak or more to the point out-of-form.

On the positives, your tail wagged vigorously - Matt Prior is in great form and Stuart Broad had a blinder, both with Bat and Ball in game 4. Flintoff will be a great addition as well, certainly a game breaker!

I'm wondering who Australia is going to replace Hauritz with, if indeed they decide to go down that path. The quicks did very well in game 4 but Hauritz has had a good series and its unusual not to include a specialist spinner in any test game.

Will be an interesting next few days.

Going to see the England Lions vs Australians this Saturday at Canterbury. I guess that as it's 'Australians' this means that it won't be the full team?

Think Cook should have a good 'talking to', and leave him out for a while because as long as the field has slips in place, he WILL be caught there.
It is now time we used the technology to keep check on umpires decisions, as there have been some bad calls which could change the final outcome.

I agree with you on the umpiring Alan. Nothing ever seems to happen to umpires who have a below par match (or series for that matter). Players' careers can be ended by one or two incorrect umpiring decisions at the wrong time.

An absolutely amazing 2 hours of play! 8 wickets in a session, and one cut short by the weather at that.

Well, that's the 1st innings - 160, and from what I can tell catching snippets here on the web between work it looks like England bowled pretty well. I have to say though that the umpiring doesn't seem to have improved much - Stuart Clark didn't look like his bat was anywhere near the ball. Likely not a game changer, but still - awful decision.

I must admit when I awoke this morning and checked the score I was very surprised to see England batting again with our total score an amazing 160 :? especially when at the time I went to bed we werre 0 for 50 odd or as you guys put it 50/0 :wink: Haven't caught the highlights yet but obviously a dominant bowling effort from England??? or could we simply not bat??

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday but I was going to say I was impressed with England's batting performance.

So exciting that he series is tied 1-1 going into the 5th test. Couldn't ask for anything more. Let's hope the weather and umpiring holds!

Wouldn't be the ashes without some absolutely horrendous decisions :? North wasn't out either.

Not over yet but ball firmly in your court!
