Well played Australia - not just in this Test, but throughout the series so far. A thoroughly well deserved reclaiming of the Ashes. Good to see Stokes putting together a solid innings at the crease, but it's only a very small glimmer in an otherwise very poor tour from England. I really hope the lads can put up a decent showing in the last two tests,if only to show they have a bit of fighting spirit. But again, well played Australia and all credit to them for bouncing back from a pretty dismal run prior to this series. |

Pride is what will see England fight back, in the next series if not this one. There are some parallels between this series and 2005/6. Australia were the better team in 2005 but the English were much more committed and focussed and surprised them. This English team is clearly a more credentialed side too but the Aussies have come at them hard. The challenge for England is to fight back the way Australia did in 2006. McGrath, Warne and Co had something to prove and now the English boys do too. Guys like Cook, Bell, Peterson, Broad, Anderson and Swann don't suddenly become terrible cricketers. Their pride will see them fight back. The next series in England is going to be awesome. |

Well played Australia. The England squad has some great talent, but they don't seem to have any passion at the moment. It's hard watching from afar in a country with no real coverage, but it seems as though a lot of the English players don't care. I agree that English pride will see them bounce back, but it may need a lot of new players to remember that representing your country is an honour to be earned and respected. |

I'm honestly still a little shocked that the series is 3-0 Australia. Who would have predicted this after last summer. Cricket is certainly a funny game at times. England still have a lot to play for though, and it will be an interesting final two tests. A very nice knock from Stokes, a respectable 2nd innings total of 353, and solid starts from Bell and Pietersen does give the team some hope I would think. |

I'm curious what our English friends think of day 1? For me, a solid start from England with an admirable half century from Pieterson. A huge gamble by Clarke in putting England in first that appears to have paid off. Lots of noise over the Swann retirement. Looking forward to day 2 with the game still clearly 50/50. |

Haven't followed this one as closely because of Christmas, but Pietersen could be the key - if he goes early tomorrow then I think Australia will be favourites, if he can hang in and see England solidly past 300 then I think we have a good game. Graeme Swann's decision was surprising, and a little disappointing without perhaps knowing the full story. |

England's first good day of the series today, even if it didn't start too well. Impressive bowling performance, now they need to back it up with a good day tomorrow and maybe salvage some pride. |

I haven't seen a ball but clearly a good day for England. The match is in the balance and looks as though will easily go the distance. I'm assuming the pitch favors the bowlers? |

Be interesting to see if Pietersen gets selected for Sydney. Second & third day usually favours the bat at the MCG, especially after lunch on the second day. Not that it has done Australia much good. Surprised to see England being sent in to bat all the same. Usually, if you win the toss, you bat at the G. |

The government should bring them home now and charge them with impersonating cricketers. I've not seen the shots they got out to, but it sounded bad on the radio. |

I had a comment mentally drafted a couple of days ago saying that although Aus have battered England and deserved the 3-0 scoreline, the first couple of days showed the importance of winning the toss, since Eng had never had the chance to bat first and have Aus batting in the shadow of any sort of total, which would expose the fragility of their own batting; that the margin between the sides had been slightly inflated etc; but my god. I can't even watch the highlights. |

The difference between the sides hasn't been batting but bowling. Both batting sides are fragile but Anderson has been insipid, Broad patchy and Bresnan et at just ineffectual. But Johnson with 32 wickets in four tests being really well backed up by Harris, then Siddle and now even Lyon have been unstoppable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
