Breitling is stopping everything under $3,500 as well as all simple quartz - but keeps the more advanced "electronic watches".

I guess I'd expect to see the Avenger as the Super Sports offering of the Chronomat line. I can't imagine the Avenger will vanish.

Excellent article :lingsrock:

P.S. I think Avenger sits well in Sea segment.

That’s what I read but I thought I also heard the Professional line will remain, which includes the Aerospace, Emergency, Cockpit B50 and Exospace B55 so I’m curious.

"As such, Breitling is stopping everything under $3,500 as well as all quartz, including the Skyracer. This, however, does not mean a discontinuation of Breitling's professional electronic watches – although those are quartz-based too, Kern consistently makes a distinction between simple quartz watches and these professional, Breitling-specific models that he refers to as "electronic watches." Therefore, Emergency watches and the like will continue to very much remain a part of Breitling's selection, whereas basic quartz watches will be gone entirely. On this note I might actually have to pick one of those Skyracers up. Gone will be all the Colt quartz models too, including the small ladies' watches (these irrespective of the movement inside)."

"No brand in the world has different logos. Breitling needs a new-old logo and it is, funnily enough, already on the Superocean Heritage." Yes, you read that right: the wings will be gone. The winged Breitling logo will be gone from all collections, including the Navitimer, the Chronomat and all the others you can think of.

What! Why? I don't like this at all...

It's kind of funny that when you visit some other forums, people are quick to dismiss everything that Kern has already talked about doing. I know there are fans of the wings logo and people who like the quartz lineup, but I can wait another few weeks before making a judgement that Breitling is bound to fail under Kern. The one thing I'm glad to see is a simplified product lineup. The Navi 8 has grown on me but I haven't called to place an order yet, but I've said it before on here, there's never been a Basel that I'm looking forward to as much as this.

I am a little bummed that the Colt quartz pieces will be discontinued. I always liked the 41mm three hand and chronograph versions, not so much when they increased the size to 44mm. In fact I was hoping they would come out with a new 41mm three hand quartz similar to the 41mm auto version recently introduced, not so now. They have morphed into a lot of model choices over the years and some trimming of the herd was to be expected, just wish it wasn't the Colt quartz pieces :( .

Like others have mentioned, combining some of the existing models (Avenger Seawolf, Colt auto., Professional) into the 4 new segments will probably happen, too popular to eliminate IMO.

I'm not sure the Navitimer 8 line is for me, thought the ETA/Valjoux Chronograph with the tone on tone subdials looked interesting but still don't like the polished subdial hands (too hard to read on black dial).

Still prefer the wings logo but it can become cramped on some dials. Don't mind the script B, will have to see how it all shapes up. Not surprised on the prices, would like to see the ETA/Sellita models reduced a bit though. Too much emphasis on keeping the price high so as not to 'cheapen' the brand. I always thought the lower cost Colts, Avengers, etc. were a positive for Breitling, more attainable than some other brands with just the higher priced pieces.

We'll see what happens!

The way I see it there are three ways to build a strong brand, be the first, be the loudest, or be ubiquitous.

Being first is not necessarily what works best in watches, look at Omega, they got awesome technological advances, but people still queue up for Rolexes.

Being loud yielded mixed results for Breitling and on top of that, has probably reached its potential, meaning that further growth would be a challenge.

So Kern is heading steadily towards making Breitlings ubiquitous.

I can see that making sense, even though it may yield less edgy - and going by the new SOH44, less interesting - watches in the short run.

We’ll have to give them time to build a character of their own, neither by their extraordinary shape nor by their extravagant design, but by how widely they get adopted in the market, much like the black Submariner or anything the like... admittedly, this will be easier for people who up until now, we’re not in the target demographic.

This comes as no surprise to me whatsoever. Breitling is clearly trying to focus more on the premium segment. Seems like just about all of the premium watches start in the neighborhood of $4700-5000 for a stainless steel automatic. With the exception of the Professional Series Super Quartz watches, Breitling is doing what Rolex did years ago when they abandoned the Oyster Quartz line.
