So with Basel a little over 3 weeks away, it seems fitting that we start a prediction thread. I think the article I posted over on the Navi 8 thread kind of gives a direction of the brand but I still think it's always fun to throw out some predictions, no matter how outrageous they actually are. For reference, you can read through this article and then make a guess or take a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the link!

"What is sure though is that there won’t be quartz versions anymore."
I really like the SuperQuartz - glad I own one

So ETA-based watches will be replaced with Sellita-based watches; prices will be a little lower; and 4 product families (Navitimer, SuperOcean, Premier, Chronomat) will replace the 11 we have today.

My predictions for Basel is a new Navitimer: Navitimer 1 at 43 mm with the new B-logo and a 23 mm wide leather strap tapering down to 20 mm. With slide rule and B01 movement.

Ok, that is a probable prediction but why 23mm strap :) ?

I don't think that all quartz models will be discontinued. I think that some multifunction watches (B55, B50, maybe Aerospace Evo) will stay and live under Navitimer 5 (?) family while analog quartz watches will be discontinued.

Maybe Emergency will be discontinued - I think that market for that one is small and is mostly a proof-of-technology exercise.

Most of the quartz is from ETA; if they (almost) discontinue the business with them, most of the quartz-model will be gone. The B50/B55/B60 might still be there, but I believe they will be removed soon.

The reason for the 23 mm is easy, the Navitimer 8 uses 23 mm straps :)

Two more predictions:
* Watches based on B01 will have a display back; while watches based on Sellita or Valjoux 7750 will not.
* And Valjoux 7750 will soon, not yet thou, be replaced with Sellita SW500.

I agree about ETA based calibers. I mentioned Aerospace Evo because I would love it to stay but they will probably discontinue it.

Personally, I don't love that odd numbered lug widths because I have drawers full of straps and none of them is odd numbered. Meh. Maybe they know better.

I wonder what is going to happen with NOWL (non-original wings logo) branded buckles and straps currently in drawers at ADs. Maybe there will be some discount for us old dogs :lingsrock:

That's a great article, Justin -- thanks for posting.

I wonder what will happen to the Avenger line under the new approach?

I've been wondering the same thing about the avenger and the colt lines. These are still great watches that attracted many of us to the brand in the first place so it would be hard to believe that they'll be going away. My first Breitling was the Colt GMT back in 2008 and I was glad to see when Breitling almost reintroduced that style Colt a couple of years ago.

I was never a huge fan of the quartz movements until I finally tried on an Aerospace. I don't know if I ever need one, but that was so comfortable on the wrist. I would hate to see the entire professional line removed.

Same here. I thought I'll never buy Aerospace, now it is one of my favourite watches.

Maybe there is a place for some Avenger and Colt models under Superocean family - Superocean Avenger instead of Avenger Seawolf, Superocean Colt etc.

I also hope the Aerospace and the B50 (in-house quartz caliber) will be part of the Navitimer (instrument/supersport) collection.

I would've thought the Airborne would have been a better seller than it was because of the more traditional bezel. It would be great to see that bezel put on all Chronomats.

and .... Basel will have some nice surprises for those who are afraid Breitling will "only" do subtle & relatively small - and I, surprisingly enough, actually like that upcoming watch a lot

Will you be providing any live updates from Basel?
