well, I must not be a breitling fan as my request to join was still open after a few months , so I probably wont belong to that 'small close knit group' any time soon

Well, I'm a member of the mentioned group and I can say mostly positive things. Georges joined and after a short exit joined again. Those few who did not treat him with the (for everyone) needed respect were closed out and now the community is excellent again.
