I hope Breitling still will try to compete with brands like Rolex, Zenith and Omega; and not Tudor, Tag Heuer and Longines

Well Georges also said that a new Navitimer 01 will be introduced @ Basel ? :-) so many more new models to come

This is refreshing to know. I've read on some other forums that people seem to think the new Navi 8 models are replacing the current Navitimers with the slide rules but I didn't think this was the case.

I am quite confident that the Navi 8 models will not be replacing the slide rule Navis, unless if they want to kill the brand. It's more of trying to provide additional options for those who prefer simplicity or maybe a better WR on the Navi. Just like how they came out with the Chronomat Airborne for those Evo lovers, where many thought would replace the regular Chronomat but didn't.

I don't know whether I like the direction so far. It seems like from time to time the brand always comes out with new stuff that seems to deviate quite a lot from its previous culture, like an attempt to create a new identity, or to bring back an older identity, which sparks controversy and hard for many to stomach the changes. And finally when the public starts to accept the brand and its direction, they confuse the public with new stunts again. They impressed many with the launch of the Navi rattrapante last year, and just as we thought the brand is stepping up on its game, there came the news on the tie up with Tudor.

I don't know how to put it. This new Navi 8 is nice, simple, classic looking... But....with this type of generic look it opens up a lot of choices and standing from a consumer's mindset, I would like it, but at most post a positive comment on it, that's all. I would never put my money on this. I would rather go for an IWC or some other models from other brands that are more "established" or "proven" since this has no specific unique feature that would drive me to get this watch.

no, Tudor can't deliver the quantities Breitling requires, they barely keep up with the demand for the SuperOcean.

Bracelet looks like ProII/III to my eyes, & this watch is crying out for a Pilot/Navi' bracelet in my humble opinion.
Looking at the winding crown, it seems like it's at rest, off the case, with an extended crown tube 'a la Tudor BB' for example. The '8' looks very simple & uncluttered; (nice), but seems a little anonymous to me. I don't dislike, this newbie, but I would need to see one in the hand to make up my mind. Looking forward to what Breitling will be revealing at the Basel fair.

The Pro III. (that's it) isn't my cup of tea either but remember, you can always grab the Ocean Classic bracelet, the mesh. The crown seems to be pulled out to stop the watch for the sake of the photo - but who knows.
I sort of like the new, minimalistic/historic design. As the B01 still does not have a day-date version and the subdials are contrasting I'd go for the blue dial 7750 version. I miss SOMETHING written under the calendar window, just for the sake of symmetry. Either Chronometer or Automatic or Chronograph, whatever. Best would be Chronometer. And a 40 mm case version would also be nice, as the new bracelet clasp (which seem to be in the pipeline). And I hope for the small case too.

Here's a good article that was posted today helping explain the direction of Breitling.

Monochrome Article

I'm not surprised to read the number of references will be cut from almost 600 to 150.

Nice, thanks for sharing :lingsrock:

Anyone knows why is 7 closer to subdial than 5 on Navi 8 ?

re 5&7 - the 7 is slightly wider.

this pic should show the origin of the Navitimer 8 design quite well; cockpit clock ref. 620 from the 1940s "Breitlin EIGHT Aviation Division" catalog

Navitimer 8 uses 23 mm and 21 mm straps ... hm. I like to switch straps, and of course have several Breitling and other branded straps and bracelets, which is neither 23 or 21 mm.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the new watches in real life, but don't think I would buy a Navitimer 8.

One thing I heard in the video was that the straps will have white stitching and that the all black ones shown are just for the prototypes.

Is the switchover to 23mm straps on 43mm cases confined to the Navi 8? Will it be more general? (Hope not!)

I hate odd strap sizes!! I really hope that doesn't become a common thing.
