Hi

Long time listener, first time caller...

To jump straight in..

Does anybody know how you can find the number on an original 1984 81950 Chronomat 1st 500?

I always see people who have these watches say that they have number #43* etc but where are they finding these numbers? I cant find this on the case anywhere? Is it an actual number or am i completely stabbing in the dark here and getting this wrong?

any help would be amazing and will allow me to sleep at night :shock: :lingsrock:

if its a limited edition it will be on the back
but the 1984 AOPA chronomat doenst seem to be a limited edition ?

Thank you for your reply. I have actually found it underneath the model number 81950, it is very faint but there. 03##. You are right i don't think they are strictly limited but the first 500 are the first an original 81950's. The picture you have shown shows a signed breitling movement, however, the earlier 81950's 'first 500' have an unsigned ETA 7750 movement. You would almost think they are fake if you didn't know this.
I say this because when i got mine and took the case back off i thought i had been done and it was not a breitling signed movement. After research though that is correct.
I think there are some other significances with the first 500 but not entirely sure what they all are. The dial being the obvious, not having the known today breitling logo but the 'aopa' logo with a 'b' inside and line underneath representing a wave to show breitlings interest in divers watches.

That early Breitling logo from the mid 1980's has nothing to do with the AOPA. It's merely Breitling's attempt to indicate the watches aviation and oceanic connection. They were used on a variety of Breitling's from this era. The number under the reference number would be the serial number but that dial is relatively rare to find on a Chronomat.
