Hello all, I had my Bentley GT purchased in 2012 polished by a watchmaker last month, and received it back last week, upon wearing for the first time since it was polished I am finding it nearly impossible to wind, it did not have this problem prior to the polishing. It had not been worn/wound for about a month while it was sent out for the polish.

It is running perfectly, keeping time, but when I turn the crown to wind and try to bring it back to wind another turn it feels like it is notchy, only when turning backwards to make the next turn.

Is there a problem, or could this just be from sitting so long?

Sounds like it needs to go in for a service. Sitting too long wont make a difference in what you are experiencing.

Thanks mystro, oddly it worked fine before sending it for polishing, and it also winds ok and runs perfectly, its when you turn the crown counter-clockwise that it is near impossible in the winding mode... it sets time fine and also sets date fine in both directions

Don't try and force it, sounds like something is locking the gears into a single direction rotation, forcing it will cause some serious damage. Sounds like the movement was removed during polishing and either damaged when re-cased or not store correctly and something has dropped into the movement.

Well the gears in the keyless works do only have a single direction of rotation, the click prevents them from winding 'backwards' to prevent the the mainspring from releasing all of its energy through the keyless works and back to the crown. The issue here will be in the crown stem and maybe castle gear, relatively simple fix but definitely requires service attention.

Thank you Roffensian, yes it winds forward and runs correctly, but usually I can spin it backward to make the next turn and it is nearly impossible to do so and it is notchy when I do turn it backwards. I will bring it back to where I had polish it and have them send it back out, perhaps they took the case apart when polishing and put something together incorrectly! Will update when I get it back.
