As a new owner of this model i was wondering whether it makes any difference which digital readout you have displayed on the watch face regarding dead bars/pixels and reliability. Is it best to leave the led's blank for durability...?

I would use them, after all that would have been one of the features you liked. Power consumption maybe of more interest to you, dead pixels would not be on ny worry list with a new time piece.

Hardly new, model was discontinued 17 years ago (and it's 65362 rather than 65263).

I don't believe it makes much difference but it's a close to 20 year old LCD.

Yeah it's getting up there in age. LCDs have a limited life.
