Post subject:  Brand New Transocean - Scratched Crystal! (UPDATE!)

Ah Man!!

As per my previous thread, I just received a Brand New Transocean Chronograph. Noticed that that the crystal has a small scuff mark that rides along the edge (permiter) of the crystal at 12:00. I know I didn't do it as pics of the watch from the first day before I wore it show the scuff.

Took it into Breitling Canada today. Great people there and very appologetic. I asked but didn't insist on a full replacement. They confirmed that it is scratched and are replacing the crystal. I'm told the crystal is on order from Switzerland. I really hope they do a PERFECT job as the watch is so new that it has been worn 3 times. They'll need a week they say.

Anyone have any experience with Breitling Canada in Toronto? Can I assume I am in great hands?

Leave it alone or demand a new watch. In your photos is not noticeable but realize they have to open up and molest your brand new watch to replace the crystal. They may or may not do a good job and the potential for other problems to be introduced is always there.

Why would you want a molested 3 day old watch that I am sure you pay for thousands of dollars? Politely but firmly communicate to Breitling Canada that the only acceptable outcome is for them to spend a week locating a like brand new replacement.

Either that or keep the watch you have and address the issue and the multiple scratches your piece will gather up in 5+ years time when it will be due for its first service.

Your choice

BCan have been very helpful and professional with me in the past. They'll do a great job.

I sent a very polite email requesting a replacement. Basically, I explained that if we all noticed in store that day then I'm sure they would have picked another one to complete the sale and that the oversight on QC shouldn't be passed on to me. They will speak to the Brand Manager and get back to me early next week. We shall see what happens. If not, then hopefully they will do a great job with the crystal replacement

I had to have a crystal replaced on a brand new transocean as well. There were flaws in the application of the AR coating that could be seen from certain angles. I didn't notice it at first. Breitling USA replaced the crystal and I've enjoyed the watch ever since. Unfortunately, these things happen, no big deal in my opinion as they fixed it and im happy with my watch. Best of luck!

They gave me a ring today. They said that they completely understood my position and a fresh Transocean is already on it's way from Switzerland! I requested to keep the current band and clasp as it's engraved.

It should be here mid next week! I am thrilled!

Just picked it up today from the T.O Breitling Boutique. Fresh from Switzerland. Amazing customer service at this place, just amazing!

Soooo shiny! Life makes sense again...

New one has scratches too! Fresh from the factory and the crystal also has a few areas around the circumference edge of the crystal where it appears there are blemishes in the AR coating. $10,000 watch and it comes like this twice! It's actually amusing. New one is less severe than the first one. I'm leaving it alone, only just barely visible in certain light. They won't fix it properly anyway and I don't have the patience to even care.

I don't know... It is very slight.. Since both are like this I feel that the domed crystals cause them an issue to apply the AR coating maybe. It's possible they will all have something. Other people may have not noticed. Can only see it in perfect lighting conditions.. See pic at the "0" of the 150 mark. You'll see a white blemish the same length of the "0" right under the "0" of the "150".

Just wear and enjoy the watch. You are going to put down many more scratches down the road.

Same in mine. Got a brand new 1461 and I have it. Also it's so fragile it's comical. I have many other watches with AR and it holds up. Image

I have a nice vertical line from god knows where. Maybe one of my jacket sleeves and the entire circumference of the glass from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock has what you have.

I am jut going to deal with it because I didn't pay the retail and only notice it in certain light. Enjoy your watch
